Radio Interview Q & A’s

Tell us a little about yourself.

I'm a stay-at-home wife and mom. I've been married for 7 years to Kevin and have a 4-year- old daughter, Sara, and a two-and-a-half-year-old son, Jack. I also serve in leadership with the Women's Ministries at Blackberry Creek Church in Aurora.

What was your motivation behind the writing of Calm in My Chaos?

I wanted every mom to know that what she was feeling was normal – no one ever told me that motherhood would be this exhilarating, this tiring, this scary, this joy-filled, this frustrating, this boring, this awe-inspiring all at the same time. And I wanted every mom out there to know that God is loving her through this time – and He wants to help each one of us be our best for our children, our husbands, our friends and for Him.

What do you hope women will gain from this project?

My desire is that each mom, woman or even dad who reads this will realize that God loves her completely and He shows us in amazing ways each day. And that when we're at our lowest - our most impatient, or our most tired - we know we have God as our Strength to lean on.

Is it really possible for moms to find calm in their worlds?  And if so, how?

It is definitely possible.  But it has to do a lot with our own choices of how we spend our time.  For instance, I could fill each day of my week with play groups and Bible studies and lunch with friends…all of which are good and fine in their own right…but one way I have been working on bringing calm into my life lately is confidently saying no to some really good things, even thought it’s hard…specifically so I am physically home more, spending time with my husband and children more.

Another was is the smaller, more daily choices…setting up a schedule for the kids really helps them feel secure and it gives us moms certain times of each day we know we’ll be able to count on for ourselves and to get things done.

You can choose to get up a few minutes early each morning to spend time with God.

In the car, you can turn on a worship tape to sing along with.

You can turn the television off for awhile and not have background noise going all day.

There are many ways we can quiet our hearts and our environments, but we’re going to have be intentional with our choices.
